Petition add kits to vanilla NPCs.

$

Since it seems to petition season, here is mine.
Just to add more flavor to the series, especially BG1 and also so I don't have to manually do it to every second NPC that joins me.

There are many good opportunities for NPC's to get kits, all lore friendly too.

-Safana is a swashbuckler.

-Monty is a assassin.

-Kivan could be a Archer.

-Kagian could very well be a dwarven defender.

-Faldorn a avenger or a shifter.

-Ajantis would probably be an inquisitor in training because he studied under Keldorn.

-Hexxat should be a shadow dancer.

and many more more could be argued for.

Will BGEE/BG2EE/IWDEE be compatible with Windows 10?

I am considering the idea to update my OS to Windows 10.
Will BGEE/BG2EE/IWDEE be compatible with this new operative system?
They say that there should be no problem, but I'd rather have an official statement about it.
Thanks :)

Will we ever see "Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition"?

While I do love Dorn's original portrait, I don't like the fact that it doesn't blend well with the other BG2 portraits, so here's my attempt to make it similar: Ponytail Dorn, hairier and manlier!

Wild surges

So, this may be a better post for mod discussions, I'm not entirely sure yet, but moving.

Not to long ago I was looking at the wild surge table charts and I noticed something, we have too many overlapping affects.
Two targets held, two fire balls on caster, and even two variations of color change. Wod it be in all possible to change some of these affects and add in new ones? Both good and bad?

Stalker/Cleric Multi

I thought about this as a dual class before. BG2 games I don't mind dual classing, but trilogy runs I am less of a fan. I don't want to play all of BG1 as X and then dual in BG2. I am not against Shadowkeeping in a kit. So, I was thinking Stalker/Cleric . . .

A staff wielding backstabbing Druid. Kansai/Druid is one of my favorite characters, this sounds even better. iron Skins, DuHM, back stab, still be strong in combat. Summon an Insect Plague for the caster you don't kill on the backstab, summon a Fire Elemental to fight along side on tougher SoA battles. Could be cool.

D&D stats for Elric of Melnibone and other Eternal Champion characters

What kind of stats a character like Elric would have in 2nd or 3rd edition D&D?

Another of my crazy late-night ideas - the Merlin run

$

Hey, I was just considering making a run where I start a character in ToB, then start that same character idea (with whatever stats I can roll and exactly 89,000 xp) in SoA, and then, if I'm still having fun, start that same character finally in BG1 (with whatever stats I can roll), and only six months or so from now, finally taking that character through SoD.

This idea is inspired by two things I was just thinking about in my crazy, weird mind.

The first is that I love the old games Might and Magic 6-8, and I was just considering starting a new character idea in 8, for no other reason than that I've played 6 and 7 to death, and I haven't played 8 in a long time, so starting a new character in 8 might help me stay excited about the new character concept long enough to actually finish at least one game in the series before I lose interest. I know 6 and 7 so well, I can almost play them in my sleep, which makes me highly likely to succumb to restartitis a few times, and then abandon any game I start long before finishing.

The second is the lore of the Arthurian character Merlin. He is explained in the lore of that world as always having perfect omniscience of what is going on, what is happening, and what will happen, because he lives "backwards through time." That is, he is imagined as having had his consciousness born into the body of an about-to-die old man, and then living his life backwards until he "dies" by returning to the womb.

I've always wondered what that kind of existence might be like - I don't think we can really imagine it.

But, I had an idea about a facsimile of that using the BG Trilogy. Just as I've spent the most time in Might and Magic on 6, almost but not as much time on 7, and only once ever finished 8, I've spent the most time in BG on 1, almost but not as much time on 2, and only once ever finished ToB.

So, in my nightly alcohol-induced insanity, I'm thinking that it might actually be kind of fun, as well as a potential cure for restartitis, to just start a new character in ToB, and if that's fun, start the same character idea in SoA, and if that's fun (enough for me to finish the game), start the same character idea in BG1, and then, if that's still fun, start that same character, finally, in SoD.

SoD is only out of order in this insane delusion of mine because it doesn't exist in playable form yet, not until November or December of 2015 at the earliest.

When I eventually wake up in my right mind, I'll enjoy thinking about whether this idea is still as appealing, and/or makes as much sense. In the meantime, since I've put myself out here, I'd be interested in what anyone else thinks. ;)

EEKeeper Viconia Cleric/Thief

I am used to using lvl1NPCs to make changes to the NPCs, but it doesn't work with BGEE. So, I am trying EEKeeper. Is this the proper method:

Set all three levels to zero
Change class to whatever (cleric/thief in this case)
Add kit (optional)
Delete proficiencies
Delete innate abilities
Save???

What is Conan's class and stats (the Howard/Busiek et al. character)?

... and before you can say "Barbarian. Duh!", consider all this:

- He 'duals' into 'Thief' early in his career.
- Later gains 'prestige classes' as a... err... 'Champion' [leadership bonuses, though not healing spells, as well as some mystical immunities, which probably approximates a non-spell casting Paladin].
- He is not a typical 'good-guy' but his word is his bond (though he is not bound by laws of the land); he attempts to protect those that ask for it (especially 'damsels', but also those linked by a battle-bond)
- He is superbly intelligent in the tactics & tricks that he employs; also has the wisdom to discern his path
- He successfully battles Wizards
- His minds is impervious when in 'rage' (e.g. 'God in the Bowl' etc.)

I'd say, he should be:

Berserker 6 / Thief 5 / Pirate 4 [Skald-like thief kit] / 'Champion' 10 [imaginary paladin kit]
Neutral Good
18-75/16/18/14/14/17
(e.g. his dex is high, but not as high as, say Janissa)

with a scattering of special abilities corresponding mental save bonuses etc.

Anyone else wanna give a shot at this?

Need help in deciding class for trilogy run.

I have played through the trilogy many times using overpowered melee types (kensai, inquisitor, monk, berserker) and am looking for something a little different this time around.

I have it narrowed down to an archer, skald, or specialist mage but I have some doubts about all three.

The archer seems like a fun change of pace since I never used missles a whole lot in previous playthroughs but it seems like it would be too similar to a kensai in a high offense low defense sort of way.

I always wanted to try 2 mages (my pc being one of em) but I'm worried that this won't be viable especially in the first game, since bg seems to favor low thac0 melee dmg over all else.

The skald seems like fun but I hear bards are pretty terrible in general. I don't mind being a sidelined support char but I want my main to be useful as well.

I realize this is a little all over the place, but any insight would be appreciated.

What's your best stats roll?

I just started vanilla BG2, and wanted to make a character. I tend to play with the first 80+ roll for my PC. But this one I got upon the very first roll (after stats re-assignment).

STR 18/99
DEX 17
CON 19
INT 14
WIS 10
CHA14

Total 92 with a 18/99. Jesus.

The great Shadows of Amn conspiracy!

I bet someone else thought about it... I always have seen some clues on something "bigger" going on in Shadows of Amn, so I gathered some clues here and there :

1) Kalah, the tiny little gnome illusionist, mentions in his final breath that he was promised something. He achieved great power in that tent, even though Aerie said his skills weren't ever that powerful. It is possible that he wanted that in his own ambition, as stated that Gnomes are pretty much just made fun of in Athkatla, or hunted down as criminals. But what if his motives weren't his own, but rather he was controlled?

2) In the de'Arnise hold, Glacias, Lord Arnise's personal bodyguard as well as friend states that his new masters shown him the truth through magic. Incidentally, TorGal didn't have ANY magic, but he *did* have some beasts that made holes through the underground - the Umber Hulks!

3) In the dungeon at Windspear hills, we meet Tazok... *again*, even after having him decapitated, splattered in tiny pieces of minced meat... well, you get my meaning. Interestingly enough, he has new masters and new plans this time around and carries a key with him, key that opens a secret door to the sewers in Athkatla!

I am pretty much sure there are other clues scattered around, but I forgot them by today. Yet one thing is certain - all clues lead to the Illithids indirectly. Are those dudes trying to conquer the world or are they simply testing the protagonist? Cut content? Pretty damn sure it was.

What do you guys think?

The Cleric Versus Wizard Necromancer.

The ultimate duel!
The Divine vs the Arcane!

I'm sure I must have talked about this before but I can never come to a conclusion.
Cleric Necromancy vs Wizard Necromancy

I made that huge post about me going over the spell lists for each in IWD:EE (and BG:EE to an extent) but I couldn't decide which was more fun to play. In your opinion, which makes the better/cooler/more flavorful necromancer? You may include mods that sway your opinion and if you feel the Blackguard or whatever class is a better necromancer than either of them then that is also welcome.

Here's the prior post if any are interested: https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/41502/an-analysis-on-necromancy-focus-on-iwd-ee-but-may-apply-to-other-games#latest

Also, the obvious answer is probably a Cleric/Mage but I'm more looking for single class stuff. I won't disallow the discussion of the Cleric/Mage so if you feel that's the best necro and want to give your reasons it's also welcome.

Any new patches coming up?

I know work is being done on Dragonspear right now, but since IWD was updated to 1.4, I was wondering if BG or BG2 will be as well?

Undead hunter (from a RP point of view).

So I'm interested in making an undead hunter, but I'm going to change his alignment to Lawful Neutral and have a few questions. Are they as focused on good as normal paladins are (cavaliers) or do they have other morals? I kind of want to be able to pick up evil characters without feeling like i'm breaking the RP of my character. My idea was that he was fully focused on destroying the undead, even if that means teaming up with some unsavory characters.

It feels strange to me that the Undead Hunter ended under the paladin class.
