Tranzig is missing (possible spoilers)

Hello,

I'm on chapter 3 and trying to find Tranzig, but he's nowhere to be found in Feldepost Inn. I'm definitely on chapter 3. I got the cinematic after clearing the mines and my journal lists it as "Chapter 3 Important events" saying I should travel to Feldepost Inn to find Tranzig.

Any ideas? Am I just stuck?

Thanks!

Another idea about Forgotten Realms divinity

Hey, I've been playing a cleric the past couple of weeks in a Neverwinter Nights run.

I've noticed again how awesome my cleric is compared to most other classes.

For example, clerics are the only class in NWN that can cast Negative Energy Protection. That's extremely important in my install, since I have Tony K's AI plus some other mods that add up to the NWN equivalent of SCS. In my install, *every* divine caster boss casts Cause Wounds spells, over and over, liberally mixed with save-or-die spells.

With the smart casters, one also needs Free Action and Death Ward, the sooner the better. Gulnan spams Cause Wounds spells, mixed with Slay Living, and Meldanen spams Hold Person. It only gets worse as I progress into the game. The Spell Resistance spell starts to help more and more.

Druids don't get Negative Energy Protection or Spell Resistance, and only get Free Action and Death Ward a level later than the cleric. Paladins can get the crucial protections up to level four, but only at higher character levels. (Gulnan almost mopped the floor with my pally - I only won by healing kit spamming, which felt phony to me, which is why I restarted and switched to cleric.)

In BG, I think the spell Chaotic Commands is worth carrying divine casters, all on its own. As a bonus, while building up to the critical Chaotic Commands spell, a young cleric gets Command, Hold Person and Silence, not to mention Remove Fear, Protection from Evil 10', Draw Upon Holy Might, and Righteous Magic.

So, that's what got me to thinking about this, but, here's the point:

In real life religion, I was raised in a denomination of Christianity that taught something along the lines of "Not by my will (or power), Lord, but Yours." The implication was that one could live a successful life and be protected, loved, and boosted to power by the divinity, but only as long as one maintained a sense of humility about where the power was coming from. There was a parallel line of thought along the lines of "Why do so many people refuse to serve the Lord? He does so much for us, if only we surrender to His will."

And of course, that's very provocative thinking for a person who wants and needs to be independent, or who has traits or needs that are proscribed by any known available "religion". Those people tend to form a dichotomy, where their opposite philosophy surrounds a thematic focus of "Surrender? Never! *I* will survive by *myself*, and myself alone!"

So, I was thinking, those kinds of attitudes are pretty common in a lot of religion, both real and imagined. In the Forgotten Realms, clerics have a vested interest in increasing worship of their god, which increases their own power in tandem. And really, all clerics have a shared interest in increasing worship of the gods in general.

In the game Sacred, the Seraphim, who was a female divine paladin/cleric type, had a battle cry where she shouted, "Trust in the gods!"

So, in Forgotten Realms, perhaps the most effective clerics are those who constantly preach, "Trust in the gods!" And then, "How about my god, ...fill in the blank...", and then "No? Well how about one of his or her allies, such as ...fill in the blank...? Here, let me heal you. And I can cure that disease your child has. Oh, and I can grow back your wife's severed finger. While I'm at it, your sister passed before her time. Let me raise her. Sister, come forth! My god gives me these abilities. No, don't thank me, thank my god!"

There are only a few divinities so opposed that each god in the polarity seeks the destruction of the other's entire portfolio - such as, for example, Nobanion and Malar.

Anyhoo, I think my point may be getting lost in all my musing about it. I'm thinking about "faith" in the Forgotten Realms, where it is demonstrably rewarded. The more time one spends praying, meditating, and pleasing a god, the greater the rewards. In fact, I have taken to calling my cleric's "spell book", his "prayer book."

Which all could lead to a clerical attitude of "Why *wouldn't* anyone worship the gods, who give us all these gifts?" It's kind of interesting to me how it works in this fantasy world.

I think I may have been influenced in wanting to discuss these ideas by @TheSpyder 's topic. Although this one is not specifically about wizards. I don't know, if any of you moderators think it's the same thing, then feel free to merge.

What to play on my second playthrough?

Having owned the game multiple times, it was a year after buying it on iPad that I eventually got round to playing it. However, by semi-accident, I've found myself accidentally doing a (mostly) solo monk, bringing in one or two of the extras for a spot of thieving and to get the reward for Rasaad's quest (which I discovered wasn't as good as what I currently had). I've made my way to Baldur's Gate itself and now I feel like a bit of a change, but I haven't a clue what to play as other than 'evil'. Does anyone have any suggestions at all?

all effects of Charisma stat?

Hello. Ideally I'm hoping for a complete rundown, for all BG EE titles, of the effects of Charisma. I am especially wanting to know when, if ever, the Charisma of your actual main character matters rather than the Charisma of your "face" character in the 1st party slot.

Issues Uploading Screen Shots

I'm suddenly not able to upload screenshots - last few days or so. When I try to do so, it just says 'uploading' but never actually uploads. I've had temporary issues w/that in the past, but usually a 'restart' or something has quickly solved it & I've been able to upload afterward. Not this time.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Trying to determine if it's something on my laptop or not.

Like I said, it's never been an issue for me before, so I'm wondering if it's something I've done.

On other forums I've used, I have to use Image Shack but, heretofore, I've just been able to upload the screenshot directly on Baldursgate.com. Thanks for any tips.

Kensai/Thief not able to wear leather armor anymore?

I've heard it used to be possible and a pretty good idea to dual class a kensai into a thief to be able to wear leather as a kensai. but it seems they have changed that... my kensai/thief still can't wear any armor :( or am i doing something wrong again? my thief level is now 1 level higher than my kensai level so at least he got the weapon proficiencies back...

Confused about AC modifiers

Hello,

So I am totally confused about the AC modifiers and how they work, especially what is "good" and what is "bad". I have a fairly good understanding of how THAC0 and AC work, but these modifiers confuse the hell out of me.

Example:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Armor 1
Armor: Protector of the Second +2
Inventory description: Armor class 6 (8 vs piercing and missile)

Character screen when equipped:
Armor Class modifiers: -1 missile, -1 piercing

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Armor 2
Armor: Studded Leather Armor +1
Inventory description: Armor class 6(4 vs slashing, 5 vs piercing and missile)

Character screen when equipped:
Armor class modifiers: -4 missile, -4 piercing, -2 slashing

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So, basically, which armor is better here? Do armor modifiers work the same way as AC in that the lower (in the character screen), the better?

Thanks!

Help me pick a canon run class

Okay folks, I finally did it. I started with BG1 somewhere around 1999 and finally finished it with EE last year. :)
Because of the D&D2ed ruleset and unforgiveness of the lower levels I've almost always played human warrior/fighter. I want to start a character to import through to BG2EE but I'm struggling here, just can't decide.

I know the classic powergame class is kensai+mage, dualing somewhere around level 13(?) in BG2. But kensai just seems so...squishy...to make a run through BG1.

I guess Im wondering if classic warrior then dual to mage in BG2 is setting myself up for hardship.

Notes: I've never played BG2, I have the some 300 page ring bound manual sitting here on my desk, but couldn't bring myself to play until finishing BG1.

I have a tendency to switch things around with the party but ultimately will probably finish with canon characters. I usually dual imoen so she's usually with me throughout picking up a spare thief for awhile until her mage cherry pops. Probably finish with minsc/imoen/jaheira/maybe khalid/maybe dynahier(I have the sweets for neera, but probably wont take her to the end)

I know the games fairly balanced and just about any build will work, hell you could do a shepherd build (wait that's ultima) and get through fine. But I also like the appeal of the Role play perspective of starting warrior and picking up the mantel of gorion and finishing off as a mage.

I like the ranger class, but I usually roll with minsc and the other one for a bit (kivan?coran?) so it seems so redundant. Though I never really treat minsc as a ranger, more like a battering ram.

The thief kits, blade and swashbuckler look appealing, but torn on them due to initial power and RP reasons, but I could make something up in my head to justify roleplay if it makes for a fun build to dual to mage.

Anyways sorry for the rambling, just having a bout of indecision. *sigh*

Black Pits crew idea. Advice welcomed

So here I am at work. A long shift with lots of bordem and I start thinking of a black pits crew idea. The idea eventually turns into four kensai, a monk and a bard. The Kensai would stay kensai until they mastered their weapons, wich would be a quarter staff (Then dual classing into mage due to high int), dual wielding katanas (wich would then dual class into cleric due to high wisdom) , dual wield daggers and finally dual wield flails (both of them would eventually go into thief. One for stealth, one for locks and traps)

I was going to name them Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, Splinter and April'o'Niel.

For obvious reasons I most likely will not actually be doing this. Chief amongst them being shame that I even put effort into thinking about it.

However it did give me an idea that did have appeal. Start off with four humans. Make them a fighter, berserker, kensai, and wizard slayer. Add a barbarian and dwarven defender. Eventually dual kensai into a mage, fighter into a thief (May use EEkeeper to make him an assassin), beserker into cleric and wizard slayer into thief with focus on locks and traps

My current idea is to dual the kensai at level 7, wich I have heard is the best time to do so, and make them user a quarter staff as their primary weapon. Focus mostly on int and dex.

For the fighter I'd have him dual wield two daggers, or possibly katanas (Since there are some very nice katanas in BP2). I'd probably dual him at level 10.

For the beserker I'd have him use a shield and mace, but no idea when I should dual class him. Thinking I might make it as soon as he masters his mace.

For the wizard slayer I'd most likely dual him the moment he masters the longbow. Though, if anyone knows, did they ever fix the bug with ranged weapons not delivering the casting penalty? If not I'll have to change my plans.

The dwarven defender I might actually use EEkeeper to turn human, then make them a shield and warhammer user. No idea if I'd dual class though if I did I'd most likely go cleric.

The barbarian would be your standard half-orc with a great sword and halberd.

So I suppose I'm asking this. Does this seem solid, or will I get my rear handed to me so badly that I'll never be able to sit again? I do plan to take them to Black Pits 2, and thats a bit of a step up from the original one. I might also switch out the barbarian with a human monk.

Does anyone know how to add subtitles to custom sound sets? I've searched the forums with little to no success. I'm aware you need to edit a couple files here and there, but I don't know which ones. Any help is much appreciated (:

Am I Imagining Things Or...

Just a quick question for the knowledgeable sages of this forum.

I could have sworn that in the original flavor BGII that you could equip dual-wielding weapon combos in your quick slot, allowing you to switch between a single main hand weapon and dual-wielding without having to access your inventory screen and manually unequipping your off-hand weapon. Right now I'm playing through BGEE and at low levels this would be very handy at low levels, but I'm at a loss to figure out how to do and I'm beginning to wonder if I imagined this ability.

So, am I hallucinating or was this actually a thing? If it was actually a thing, is it still a thing? If it's still a thing, how do I do it?

Flame/acid arrows don't kill trolls

I just got to the druid grove today and found that when the trolls fall down and are in thier "dying stage", flame/acid arows don't finish them off. Now, if I cast flame or acid arrow by my mage it works but the same type of arrows from anyone with a bow don't work. Is this a new rule in the enhanced version? Possibly a glitch? I played BG:2 back when it was realeased in 2000 and I distinctley remember all forms of flame/ acid arrows working them, not just magically produced ones. If it is a new rule for the enhanced version, it sucks. I also have SCS installed, so I don't know if that could be affecting this in some way either.

Jester/Skald?

$

I am going to do a multiplayer session with a friend of mine using a 4-man party (2 Characters each). My friend decided to play with a Half Orc Barbarian and a Gnome Illu/Thief, while I am going to play with a Half-Elf Ranger/Cleric and a Half-Elf Bard.
For the Bard I am still trying to choose between the Jester or the Skald. His role is going to be a support character, casting the spells the Illu/Thief can't and casting the minor buff spells and such so the Illu can focuse on the big work. He is going to stay in the rear while picking off enemies with a crossbow.
As far as backgrounds go, I prefer the Skald, but doubt whether his song will be beneficial in such a small (melee) party. The Jester song seems also quite nice and usefull to me, but I don't know whether I can sing it and stay back or if you have to get up close and personal.
Any recommendations?

Hey,
What would be the best class/combination of classes for getting as many -AC/+rolls (Bless, etc.) onto a single character? I've considered Berserker/Mage, Berserker/Cleric, and Kensai/Mage, but the last one is the only one that is somewhat appealing. What is everybody else's opinion on this?

I'm wondering, when you have cast Spell Immunity: Abjuration.
Is there any way to remove it?
It seems all removal and dispel magics are also Abjuration.

There are spells that say they will remove the spells, but if you are immune can it actually be removed?
Just curious as to what trumph what here?

And sorry if this has been posted before, I didn't find any such post though.

So at the end of the game where you get the invitation to the duke coronation... I killed bill and I can't get into the palace I thought I would be able to brute force through but apparently you have to be a little b*tch and do it the other way... Any ways I did that and I still can't enter. It keeps telling me to gather my party so I'm stuck outside of the castle. Have the iPad version so modding is not a option. How the hell was this not fixed prior to release... Need a beta tester? ...
