Help me decide who to drop for Imoen...

$

I'm about to go off to Spellhold and I can't imagine not picking up Imoen... However, my current party will probably be in the 2 million exp range by the time I get to her, which leaves me in a quandry about who to drop...

I'm running with Fighter/Illusionist, Neera, Nalia, Viconia, Jahiera, Hexxat. Hexxat is my lover this time around so I'm not dropping her. As a healer, I prefer priests to druids due to all the undead, so I would opt for Viconia over Jahiera generally, but Jahiera is also a fighter so I'm considering whether having her wield spectral brand + belm is worth keeping her around throughout since she's probably my second best source of damage.

The ideal drop is probably Nalia, but I gave her some good scrolls already and she has level 7 spells (but Neera and CHARNAME got the best ones). Anyone have any opinions?

I do run with Nalia a lot but mostly because she used to be the fastest leveling mage before Neera. Also, I guess I'll just get annoyed with handling 4 arcane casters, so I'm leaning towards dropping her, especially since her gear is so overlapping with Imoen's.

If I do drop Nalia, I still have to decide if I do it now to get more exp for my team, or drop her later to have her help carry stuff etc.

All you wanted to know about the “Adventure Y”

Now with BG2:EE released and we all know about Hexxat at last it’s time to anticipate something new.

So I think the discussion about the “Adventure Y” is going to be the next hit.

There’ve been several threads on this forum about this topic but I will try to gather EVERY piece of information and update it when something new is known. I hope @TvrtkoSvrdlar and others who started topics about the Adventure Y in the past excuse me ;)

A little bit of history first.

Tweets by Trent Oster, 12 May 2012

Adventure X is going to be standalone. Keep your ears peeled for Adventure Y, which is intimately linked to the Bhallspawn storyline

Adventure X is a side adventure, while Adventure Y is an optional storyline piece in the Bhallspawn series

Tweets by Sam Hulick and Trent Oster, 23 May 2012

SH: Listening to the #BGEE Adventure Y main theme on repeat while doing paperwork. Never has something so mundane felt so heroic & adventurous.

TO: I do the same. It can become a liability when the #bgee Adventure Y theme is going hard and you are trying to do contracts.

Later PhillipDaigle tweeted that the Adventure Y can be set at or near Boareskyr Bridge, accidentally the place where Cyric killed Bhaal.

Dee in November 2012 said (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/142403/#Comment_142403) the "Adventure Y" hasn't been finished yet, and will likely be released post-ship.

Here (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/369710/#Comment_369710) is said the Adventure Y has been confirmed for after BGE2:EE (release). This post (9 October 2013) is promoted by LiamEsler.

Basically there were no news at all after that.

All of a sudden PhillipDaigle here on the 30th of November 2013(http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/418768/#Comment_418768) said something that can be interpreted as:

1) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y is planned for after BG2:EE, or
2) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y in not going to be released in the next patch, or
3) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y is set after BG2:EE.

We know elminster (a Beta Tester) (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/346026/#Comment_346026) said the Adventure Y will cost money although in the past Tanthalas (also a Beta Tester, Private Beta Moderator) (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/14040/#Comment_14040) had thought about the Adventure Y as a part of the new content for EE and not a DLC.

So, we know the Adventure Y is tied with the Bhaalspawn plot and has its own theme.

Taking into account those words about money and realizing the Adventure Y has not been definitely released before BG2:EE it seems reasonable to agree with the 3rd variant and say the Adventure Y is set somewhere before the story of the Bhaalspawn ends.

Moreover, I think it’s safe to conclude from PhillipDaigle’s post the Adventure Y is meant to be content for BG:EE, not BG2:EE.

There’s an idea that the Adventure Y takes place after Sarevok's defeat and shreds some light on those “circumstances much darker than anyone would have thought” under which the Bhaalspawn left for Amn. So this adventure would probably take place between the two games and end with the Bhaalspawn getting captured by Irenicus.

It’s interesting to take into account that TrentOster - after looking (6 September 2013) at a feature request of an interlude chapter that narrates the happenings between Sarevok's ending and the capture of the Bhaalspawn by Irenicus - said “Sounds kind of adventurey. Could be a fun concept.” (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/350159/#Comment_350159)

One can interpret “adventurey” as “adventure y”.

So, right now it's everything from what has been confirmed.

Best options for Korgan through ToB?

Hey everyone, I was searching for some opinions of how best to equip Korgan. This is my first ever evil playthrough and boy was I missing out! I love the evil npcs now.

Anyways, I've been using two axes with him obviously, and he has the most xp in kills of the entire party. What I was wondering is about off hands. How many more proficiencies does he get? He came with one in warhammer. While I love the idea of an axe and hammer dwarf, I'm torn by the power of the Flail of Ages. Any suggestions?
He currently has ***** axes, ** two weapon, and * warhammer.

Edit: Just checked, actually him and CHARNAME are tied in game progress, but Korgan has 40 percent compared to 39 charname this chapter. What a fun competition to have :)

Teach me how to Wild Mage

I've now beaten BGEE twice with Neera in the party, and both times she's just been there for testing/uniqueness/new content. I haven't gotten much actual combat use out of her.

I expect this is my fault: I'm basically using her as a gimped specialist mage. I teach her every scroll, play her like a mage, and hope that the wild surges aren't too negative. I occasionally got lucky (Area of Effect Stoneskin right before the Durlag's Tower Demon Knight was quite nice!), but for the most part she was a decent mage that occasionally fireballed herself.

I made no attempt to learn how to properly utilize Nashal's (sp?) Reckless Dweomer or the Chaos Shield spells. Is there a good way to utilize them, either in BG1 or BG2?

Is there a bug with Hexxat's quest? (No spoilers please)

I've seen a few thread titles that seem to indicate a problem with her quest.

I'm asking whether or not that has been confirmed, and is it a show stopper if so? (i.e. is it better to wait for it to be resolved before trying to take her into your party?)

I guess this might deserve (for Linux enthusiasts at least) more attention than if on the 25th page of another thread...

Double clicking through dialogue gone?

Hi all!

Recently picked up BGEE again after being disappointed with it initially. I like the new UI and I feel like it's just freshened it up enough that I can properly enjoy it this time.

However - in my memory, I used to be able to double click my way through dialogue. In fact, that's how I used to progress dialogue 100% of the time. It seems like this is no longer possible... can anyone help me out?

Is there any way to enable double clicking through dialogue or is it just an unavoidable consequence of changing the UI?

Many thanks

So I'm playing BG2:EE and Neera wild surged into a bloke. I'm not romancing her so not a problem for me as a female PC but I'm surprised she hasn't reacted to it! Also is this a permanent effect? I seem to remember with main PC chars it is.

What interesting wild surge effects has everyone else experienced?

Why EE?

First things first: I love the old infinity engine games a great deal. I love how they look, I love how they feel, I love how they implement the AD&D system, and I love the storytelling. And nothing pleases me more than seeing these old gems revived. SO please don't take this question the wrong way. I really don't intend to troll or be mean to the hardworking artists and craftsmen on this project.

What exactly does the EE do that 15 years of modding doesn't already do better?

How do you guys play your Blades (the bard kit)

$

I was so pumped to play him... but he's so squishy. He does okay damage with the spin, but his ac is crap since I don't have armor for him yet (that allows him to cast spells) and he takes a hit like a little girl. My group right now is a bit low on frontliners, but I thought I'd be okay having played the game so many times before. My group right now is Neera, Nalia (to be replaced by Imoen) and Minsc. I plan on picking up Rasaad and Aerie or Cernd. He seems most effective with melfs minute meteors at the moment to be honest.

How do you guys play him? I stoneskin and mirror image before fights, and occasional draw upon holy might when I remember I have it. Any other ideas on how to beef him up?

And most importantly will he get noticeably better as time goes on and he gains levels?

Does doing the Bard Stronghold give you some unique bard items that will help me out?

Major WTF?? Moments in the Games (SPOILERS)

OK, so I've killed my evil half-brother Sarevok in the first game. Then at the end of the second game, I have to kill him (or at least his ghost) ALL OVER AGAIN! in Hell. And then I meet him at the start of the third game, in Hell, where I have to resurrect him and he then offers to join my party.

That's one (well, two!) of those times when I thought "WTF!? Kudos to the developers for this twist!"

What moments in the games really made an impression on you? Learning about your heritage? Finding out about Irenicus' real goal? Finding that Adalon was a Silver Dragon? Or maybe learning who was The Imprisoned One?

Bards influence quantum mechanics

Hi, I posted this copy-pasted text on the "new players tips" forum as a way I discovered to make thief detect traps more effective.

Since I believe that a significant portion of the community here don't read that forum, I am going to post it here as well, to encourage discussion of a correlate idea of mine, about bards. (@Dee, if it turns out that there is significant interest in this idea, in both forums, please merge the two threads.)

Here is what I posted, that started as simply a new player suggestion:

Hi, I know that one of the hardest and potentially most frustrating parts of this game is to detect and disarm traps with thief skill.

Even with 100 percent detect traps, one will often stumble into fatal traps by moving too fast.

Disarming traps with thief skill takes the patience of Job, waiting for that skill to tick.

I have recently discovered a trick that is helping me immensely with this problem. I usually play a skald. I usually spend most of my time singing to give my party my permanently awesome buffing, equivalent to both a bless and a chant, permanently cast as long as I sing.

I noticed a side effect - my song shows up as "Bel sings", on every tick of the round. I also noticed something else. Imoen or Yoshimo detect traps only in their line of sight, over about two inches on my 82" tv screen, per round, during that tick. There is zero chance of detecting a trap around a corner, using thief skill. (While cleric Find Traps spells detect them over a huge area per round tick, regardless of lines of sight.)

So, I can use my bard song, as it shows up in the actions window, to know exactly when every round ticks, and therefore every thief detection attempt, and, it makes a really incredibly useful, handy-dandy round timer, since bard song is the first thing that activates at the beginning of every round tick.

This is yet another handy-dandy use of the much maligned and underrated bard class - you can use your bard to time rounds to detect traps with your thief. :)

This is especially true if one understands the nature of the thief detect skill, which is dependent upon lines of sight from the thief toon, and only activates once per round, *simultaneously* with the bard song tick.

And so, "with their mastery of narrative structure, bards should rule the universe, instead of hanging about in taverns..." That's a quote from Emperor Tarquin, from The Order of the Stick. And, in that comic's universe, I would suggest, that the "incompetent" bard Elan has been saving the Order's butts since the beginning of the comic epic story, by singing his silly little "hit, hit, hit, hit, the little goblins" ditties, and "make, make, make, make, your saving throws", and "detect, detect, disarm, disarm, make your skill ro-oools", and all his other nursery rhyme formula ditties.

Bards control quantum mechanics. Bards influence probabilities, and through their musical and poetic power, decide whether Schroedinger's cat lives or dies. (Elan would sing it like - "Live, live, live, live, little Schroedinger's cat, kitty! Soft, kitty, warm, kitty, little ball of fur! Happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr, purr, purr!)

Umm, yeah, so, you can use your bard's song as a round timer, besides its quantum mechanics altering properties. :)

What should overhaul do next?

So BG1 and BG2 now both have an enhanced edition.

We will see the inevitable patches in the coming months, but now Overhaul is drifting directionlessly in the black void of post-development uncertainty.

Clearly only you and I can solve this existential dilemma. So what is the answer?

Should they:
1. Continue producing large amounts of post launch content for both games of breathtaking scale?
2. Start enhancing another infinity engine game?
3. Start enhancing another D&D game?
4. Start enhancing another game?
5. Stop enhancing games, and start making their own games which they may or may not be able to enhance another 12 years down the line?
6. Start making Baldur's gate 3?
7. Start making what is basically Baldur's gate 3, but not actually called Baldur's gate 3?
8. Start making an entirely new D&D game?
9. Start making an entirely new rpg?
10. Start making an entirely new game?
11. Something else?

Keyboard/Mouse question

Returning to the game after more than ten years, I lack a manual with keyboard commands for my Mac OS X. How do I identify magic items with spells/scrolls?

As I remember the game from my old PC, I used to:
1) Place the magic item in a spellcaster's inventory
2) Double click on the item and select "identify with spell/scroll" in the popup box

This doesn't seem to work on the mac version. What am I doing wrong? What am I supposed to do?

Buy on Beamdog with euros

I'm thinking to buy BGII:EE from the sale on Beamdog, but I'm not sure if I can pay with Euros. Everywhere on Beamdog the prices are on dollars. There is a problem from buying the game if I use euros instead of dollars?

And another thing... When I select to purchase BGII:EE, in the screen of the "Purchase details" doesn't appear the game discounted, is something wrong? or is only a visual problem?

Does Neera remind anyone else of Qara from NWN 2? Their characters seem similar to me, except for Qara's arrogant attitude. And their stories are similar too.

I got BGEE on the iPad but I'm playing BG2EE on the Mac. I have BG2 and BG saved games and .chr files from 2001. Is there anyway to import those into BG2EE or BGEE on the Mac.

Or is there anyway to import BGEE iPad characters?

Thanks for any help and I wish everyone a healthy, happy, Holy Christmas and New Year!

Struck by lightning, twice!

My fighter/mage just got *twice* struck by lightning (from the weather, not a spell) on the Valley of the Tombs map within the space of about a minute in real time, she was wearing plate mail at the time - 25 points damage each hit, though luckily she had 50 HP and Viconia managed to cast Cure Medium Wounds in-between! Never had that happen before (not twice, anyway), though I could see the funny side!

Could someone toss me a bone about where to find Neera? Can't find her and I've been looking around athkatla for a while now.

I figured I'd find her along the way but I've been playing for a while now and haven't gotten across her sadly. Might have missed her.

Just her location will do. :)
