Do you want BG3 to use the new 5th edition rules?

$

Since it seems like the 5th edition is going to be a mix of 4E rules and 2E rules, do you want BG3 to use 5th Edition? Also, do you want secret quest from book series like Myth Drannor, or even Cormanthor time jump before when the city first changed its name?

Lastly, how many classes do you want, every class they can cram, even Drow, Aasimar, or even Half-Dragon Kin(just a thought since I saw a cool on in IWD 2)?

I guess this might deserve (for Linux enthusiasts at least) more attention than if on the 25th page of another thread...

@theguiltmachine BG:EE for Linux is still in the works. We don't have a ship timeline yet, but it is still in the plan.

Top 5 things you hate and love about this game...

Like:

1. The AD&D rules - the rules edition I grew up with and enjoyed.

2. Bards Stronghold. The most fun stronghold in the game. Wish it had more plays added.

3. Dorn being bisexual and allowing for alternative romances.

4. Wild mages and their ridiculous unpredictability. Just wish Neera wasn't the only NPC choice (see dislikes).

5. Falling in love all over again with a series I played over a decade ago. The fresh makeover on a work of art.

Dislike:

1. NPCs initiating dialog to party members when I have a max charisma leader and want to roleplay the conversation. Reload reload reload.

2. Pathing. Corridors are the stuff of nightmares.

3. Neera's voice. The style is anachronistic and too modern for the series ("You rang?"). It doesn't help that a coworker I hated had the exact same voice. Rewrite her.

4. Druids getting shafted on shapeshifting and feeling incomplete with their spell list.

5. Vampire level drain.

Thanks for the awesomeness of the Enhanced edition! Black Isle and Beamdog rocks!

Useless spells (are they really useless?

Hi, this is my first post, if played bg1 and 2 many times and i wanted to try something a bit different.
There are tons of spells that i NEVER use, and almost never hear about. Im hoping some experts here can give interesting ideas on how to use any of the spells on this list:

Level 1: Blindness, Chill touch, Colour spray , infravision , reflected image , shocking grasp, spook
Level 2: Deafness, detect invisibility , ghoul touch , glitterdust , luck , power word sleep ,
Level 3: Detect ilussion , minor spell deflection , slow , spell thrust
Level 4: Contagion, Enchanted weapon , Icestorm , Otilukes, Polymorth other, polymorth self , Teleport Field
Level 5: Conjure lesser elemental , Hold monster , Oracle , Shadow door ,
Level 6: Carrion summons , Desintegrate , Flesh to stone , Wyvern Call , Conjure elemental , Invisible stalker
Level 7 : Cacofiend, Control Undead , Limited wish (repeatable) , Mantle , Prismatic spray , Sphere of caos , Summon djinni , Summon efreeti
Level 8: Bigbys Clenched fist , Power word: blind , Summon fiend , Symbol: death , Symbol : Fear, Symbol : Stun
Level 9: Bigbys Crushing Hand , Energy drain , Gate, Meteor Swarm

Some of these spells have some use, but there are other spells on their level with better results.

Surviving the Black Pits 2 Ambush. (Insane Difficulty Solo)

Just completed TOB. Other than the bugs I really enjoyed the new NPCs and the new enhancements. Afterwards, I loaded up The Black Pits 2 to give it a try..... and you guessed it, the pre-made team got obliterated by the ambush. After I tried several times I gave up... Seems like there is no way to avoid the capture...

So I decided to import my charname from TOB to avenge them.. It's a Legit character with gears carried over from TOB.

For BG:EE

STR 18
DEX 18
CON 15?
INT 18
WIS 10?
CHA 18?

Should I lower WIS to 7, raise CON to 18, get the Claw & bump WIS later with books? Or lower CHA to 15 & do it that way? Or leave as is?

Also, with a starting CON of 18, will this character eventually be able to get 20 CON & a small regen? Is that worth going for?

Have you ever wondered...

Why doesn't Minsc get extra HP from having Boo?

Who buried that Ankheg Plate in Nashkel?

Was it Noober?

How about now?

Why are the Amnian soldiers along the contested border with Baldur's Gate so poorly trained compared to standard city watchmen in Trademeet and Athkatla?

Where did all the characters who didn't follow you to Amn get to?

If Ankhegs are breeding out of control, why are their shells still so valuable?

What colour is an invisible stalker?

Why does armour never break during the iron crisis?

Why does the Lawful Neutral mage has the best familiar for breaking the law?

Why do so many mages betray you the moment you turn in quests with them?

Who was the guy who threw +2 Sling Bullets at Neeber?

How did he not kill Neeber with five +2 Sling Bullets?

Why do the Shadow Thieves need twenty-thousand gold when they earn thousands of gold every week from their guildhouses?

Why do the Cowled Wizards never, ever try to arrest you, even if you've just gated in a Balor and exterminated fifty people in Waukeen's Promenade? And why did it take so long for the Cowled Wizards to show up in the first place?

If all of your gear is sold off in BG2, who gets the Girdle of Sex Change?

Making the game more challenging: Avoiding Cheese:

Im not particularly fond of mods that increase difficulty, so i was hoping people would give me some insight as to how to avoid cheese in the game to make it more challenging. I know Everybody has their own definition of cheese so im hoping to get some feedback about what do people think is cheese and how to avoid it:

Here are a few of my ideas of what i think is cheese:

Preparing for a battle your pc didnt know was coming, preparing specific spells required for a battle that you didnt know would be required.
Line of sight abuse: in many ways
Dealing with a group of mobs one at a time (escaping so only one follows for example): With this i mean, you have to deal with the mobs all at once, the group being separated so you can easily pick them off sounds silly.
Exceeding summoning limits, having more than one planetar
Escaping demogorgon by going upstairs.. (so the prince of demons cant go up a stair??)

There are some specific spells that have some cheese involved (abusing AI) for example, if you cast web out of sight, since you do no damage, mobs dont attack, giving you time to cast several webs before cloudkill. I think this is cheese altogether and you should only cast web within sight.

Traps also have a lot of cheese. You know exactly where the mob will go and when? And as a personal option: A non magical trap can hurt mobs that are only hit with +3 weapons? For those reasons I dislike spike trap altogether.

In-out the room to cancel a spell cast is also cheese:

As an example: You go for the celestial fury fight. You could send a thief upstairs first but since the mage casts true sight or similar quite quickly, your toons would have to all go upstairs why? Staying downstairs means that probably some of the mobs involved wouldnt go down and you would have numerical advantage. So, the battle must be fought upstairs (most probably eating the trap). If your thief leaves upstairs before the mage casts his spell it would be an interrupt so you cant do that.

Clones using quickslot items: cheese (no more infinite scrolls of protect vs magic)

What about mislead using bard song? Cheese yes or no?

And people said D&D bards did not exist in real life

How do you guys play your Blades (the bard kit)

I was so pumped to play him... but he's so squishy. He does okay damage with the spin, but his ac is crap since I don't have armor for him yet (that allows him to cast spells) and he takes a hit like a little girl. My group right now is a bit low on frontliners, but I thought I'd be okay having played the game so many times before. My group right now is Neera, Nalia (to be replaced by Imoen) and Minsc. I plan on picking up Rasaad and Aerie or Cernd. He seems most effective with melfs minute meteors at the moment to be honest.

How do you guys play him? I stoneskin and mirror image before fights, and occasional draw upon holy might when I remember I have it. Any other ideas on how to beef him up?

And most importantly will he get noticeably better as time goes on and he gains levels?

Does doing the Bard Stronghold give you some unique bard items that will help me out?

Knocking out opponants

$

I was just googling to see if monks could knock people out (Can they?), and I found an old topic here about how useless knocking people out is. The topic is archived now, so I couldn't comment, but I thought I should point out that knocking people out does have actual in-game uses.
There are some gnolls southwest of Nashkel in BG1 who take offense to you trespassing in their territory. They ask you to pay them for passage, but if you say you don't have money, they'll suggest your champion fights theirs instead, and if yours wins, they'll let you go. Beating their champion is easy by this point in the game -- in fact, slaughtering all of them is easy. But if you knock out the champion instead, then wait for him to regain consciousness, he admits that you beat him, and you get a nice experience bonus for resolving the encounter without killing anyone.
So far, that's the only place I've seen the knockout rewarded by the game. Does anyone know others?

Sorc solo. BG1 any problem?

Ive done most of BG2 solo as sorc long long ago. Such a fun class to play so gonna make a new one soon, and this time do the whole saga.

Is there any issues running a lone mage in the first game and being weak like a kitten? Or is it just a matter about using invisibility and sleep alot?

Also, best race? Should be Elf?

How much Stealth is needed?

Does anyone know what kind of numbers your Hide/Move Silently scores need to be at in order to reliably hide every time? Also what other environmental factors play into this - I seem to recall if you try to hide in broad daylight outside you receive a penalty etc.

Does anyone know what kind of penalties exist?

Hey i would appreciate if someone helps me get the best build for: Thief\Fighter having some proficiency in darts and using quarterstaff for backstabbing. I saw a few topics but i just dont know where to start. Whats the best way. Multi or Dual? Start as fighter or thief? till what level? I read halfing is prefered dart wise, but i am not sure its the best race for thief skills. Anyone with enough Bg Lore to clarify this?

Pure Mage Questions..

Hi all, I'd like to try running through 1&2 as a pure Mage..
Any strong reasons why that's a bad idea ?
I'd also like to see all the conversation/story dialogue, governed by charisma?
For weapon I'd like to concentrate on ranged..

What stats/abilities numbers should I aim for?

What Skills to pick..

If I was pure Mage any advice on best other party members?
I'd like them to be strong with ranged weapons

Any help appreciated before I set off :-)
