4 man evil run from bg1-tob

There are not a whole lot of Bg2 npcs of evil alignment at this point in time, and none of them are thieves. So I will take Viconia and Edwin. Dorn in BG1 (possibly 2 if they add him in EE) and the battle mad dwarf in bg2.

Sooo....looks like my main needs to be a thief. Should I dual, multi, or single class thief?

Favored enemy Skeleton is a bunk deal!

The thread on "How to use Rangers/Archers" inspired me to try out a Cleric/Ranger (power slinger/duel maces w/stunning mace), as, so far, my favorite games have all involved a 4 person party with Charname being a ranger of sorts (Archer & Stalker rock!), and I've had an aversion to playing a cleric, or usually even having one in my party.

So I made 2 Cleric/Rangers to be "undead hunters" of sorts, giving one ghoul and one skeletons as favored enemies, mostly for roleplaying purposes of the class (I usually give rangers g. spiders or ettercaps). Anyway, taking ghouls is a blast, typically putting them down with 1 sling stone as a level 1/1 character who has 18/99 strength. I'm loving how sling stones do more damage than arrows with a strong character, which I had no idea about, since my slingers are usually some wimpy mage. This seems like it will be even more useful when encountering the greater ghouls deep in Durlags later game.

Skeletons, however, is a complete rip-off, as their ridiculous damage reduction to projectile weapons makes my sling stones as useless as usual, reducing 15 points of damage to 2 points! The funny thing is that this is the reason I picked skeletons, as I find them to be a nuisance in general, often wasting precious fireball slots just to lay waste to them quick, so as not to have to deal with them. My hope was that having them as a favorite enemy would possibly flatten them quicker. I didn't work.

So, I'm going to stick with my ghoul hunter instead.

Continuity for new NPCs

Hi,

Does any one know if the new NPCs like Rasaad and Nira will be availalbe for BG2EE? And if thats the case then do we need to have them in our party at the endof BG1EE?

Are there plans for other new NPCs to be introduced in BG2EE?

Thanks.

Quarterstaff - The weapon of yesterday, tomorrow!

I am no expert on the quarterstaff, but shouldn't it get an extra attack or something as if dual wielded? In it's current form it is a two handed weapon that does 1d6 and no one in their right mind would use it over the club.
Any thoughts?

Best builds for a long term Paladin? (either Inquisitor or Cavalier)

I'm considering running a Paladin from the beginning of BG1 through BG2 and wondering what thoughts you may have about proficiencies to take. I was thinking beginning with:
If Cavalier then ** Two Handed Sword and ** Two handed weapon style (or should I take flail?)
If Inquisitor then **2 H Sword and ** Longbow, likely following up with 2 hand weapon style.

Probably taking flail next, as I know I'll need a bashing weapon for a lot of things in BG2...also considering bastard sword. It does seem important to go with a shield and even shield style for a cavalier though, no?

It's been many years since I've played BG2 and I'm excited because I forgot most of it so it will be all new to explore again, however, I'm also no longer acquainted with the progression of high level 2nd edition DnD characters.

Thanks for any insights.

Having trouble with multiplayer

Hey folks!

I wanted to start the sort of multiplayer game where I play single player with multiple player-created characters. But I can start the game. I have the "serial" setting selected, I get to the point where I've created the characters, but the "done" button remains greyed out. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I have no idea what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Kitting NPC's, what would you change?

Edited this list after reading peoples suggestions / putting more thought into it all, wanted to thank the following people who posted: @Nifft @FrozenCells @KidCarnival @Darrylson @The_Shairs_Handbook @Fardragon, as well as the rest of you guys for making me rethink this.

I decided to make my list playable legal kits, etc. Since some suggestions were to have a kitted multi-class I streamlined to the kit as a solo build, so characters like Yeslick, Montarion and Coran in my list become solo classes. The exception to the rule was Khalid, whom was changed to a multi-class, but I think it makes him so much better. Here's my revised list.

Characters that shouldn't be changed:

Imoen - Thief (Since she does get dual classed/becomes an arch-mage)
Kagain - Fighter (He's more a mercenary type, in retrospect I agree with that)
And all the rest....

Warrior Classes:

Ajantis - Cavalier - (I think he fits this kind of mentality over an inquisitor but he could still serve Helm)
Kivan - Archer (It's really what he should be)
Khalid - Fighter/Mage (I actually think he'd be such a better character this way that I am going to try it out)
Minsc - Barbarian (I would say Berserker, but maybe this really does fit more)
Shar-Teel - Berserker (She's controlled and focus in her rage against men)
Yeslick - Dwarven Defender (Single Class, yes he stops being a cleric...but I think this fits him more story-wise)

Rogue Clases:

Garrick - Skald (For his quest to pen a great epic song)
Eldoth - Jester (Because as people have said, he thinks everyone is an idiot but him)
Montarion - Assassin (Single Classed, fits his demeanor / mission more, like he was sent to kill the harpers)
Safana - Swashbuckler (Didn't realize it until someone said it but it fits)
Skie - Shadowdancer (Dancing background, and makes her worth the effort to get)
Coran - Bounty Hunter (Single Classed, and it would keep him from being overpowered with +++ in Bows like he normally gets put back to +, or maybe two ++ if you still want to give him one extra than he should get...and it totally fits his story line / character)
Alora - Blade (Make her a clepto Bard who can fight a bit scrappy maybe? She's a pickpocket...not a great singer...and not really a murdering ruffian thief type either...plus it'd make her more interesting)

Clerics/Druids/Monks:

Rasaad - Sun Soul Monk (It really is what he describes himself to be!)
Faldorn - Avenger (Everyone here seems unanimous in this as fitting)

Durlag's Tower (or places like it)

So I just recently finished Durlag's Tower, and I believe I've finished/gone to most every other place on the map. I'm also almost finished with the main story. Now, imho, the tower was by far the best and most challenging part of the game, which seems to go leaps and bounds beyond anything I've encountered. Is it supposed to be this way? I mean, I love the whole game so far, but nothing seems to compare to it. Besides the main story, is there any place like Durlag's? Every other area I explore is full of weak monsters with little to no treasure or story :( Like, there's map after map of forest with weak monsters, the city of Baldur's Gate, and then there's Durlag's Tower lol.

Justifying a druid from Candlekeep

I'm curious how you could justify being a druid when you spent your entire life behind the walls of candlekeep. I'm having a difficult time justifying being a druid or ranger from Candlekeep. Mind you, theres always the "I wanted to be one so I am one" excuse, but I'd like something a bit more immersive.

I'm also just pondering RPing some other class and dual classing into druid soon after leaving candlekeep. Perhaps claiming Jaheira as a mentor and inspiration. Any other ideas?

So after months of trouble and crappy computers I finally got my BGEE running so I am asking you guys; How should I play my first playthrough?
I managed to play for some days back in December so I have done the 3 new npc's storylines, but no romance.

As everyone else I have played the BG saga over and over again and I usually end up with a very similar party, me as a fighter or fighter/thief, Minsc, Yeslick, Imoen and then I try to change the rest.

My thoughts now when half a years expectations can finally be met is to either run a 2 person party (I ALWAYS do 6 player parties) consisting of a Illusionist/thief and a Cleric/Ranger or an all evil party with Dorn, Vicci, Montaron, Xzar, Edwin, New Guy and me as a......who knows.....Ooops, that makes 7 so I guess one has to go.

I did the Black Pits yesterday and will start the new runthrough tonight (european time) so please be fast =).

Tazok and the bandit camp....

Hi I'm just wondering what the best way to do the bandit camp part of chapter 3 is?. I know if you go to larswood or pedvale, you have the option of joining the bandits or just killing then.

I don't want to miss out on items, but also don't want to miss out on dialogue.

Should I just kill the bandits in larswood and pedvale then go to the bandit camp and trash it? Or join them and walk thru camp to get the papers from the tent?

I joined at first but then tazok buggered off and went on a scout trip or something....I wanted to fight him.

Any help would be appreciated and please share any experiences...

Thanks.:-)

I just noticed (after many years) Irenicus makes a sideshow in BG 1

I just killed the Spider "Queen" in the Cloakwood. It has been many years since I last played BG 1 so in this run I am reading all the dialogues, not just clicking them. The thing is that I asked her how she had become into that nasty form, and she told me she had been cursed by the Archmage Jon Irenicus to stay like that because she offended Jon Irenicus and his wife (¡¡¡).

Mustard jellies punch?

Mustard jellies are deadly in ranged fighting, their spit can both poison and slow down a victim for a long time. However, if I make a character move next to them, they switch to their melee attack, which is empty, so they just punch and occasionaly do 1-2 non lethal damage. Is this a feature or bug?

The no reload challenge (spoiler warning)

$

One of the most fun thing to do in BG is to play with no reload.

The point of the thread is for you to describe your attempts (failed or successful)

I'll start with mine (i just list the significative attempts, not the ones in which i died after 5 minutes). All these playthrough were on core rules difficulty (save for leveling, to get max hp)

- Fighter/mage/thief. Solo. Died in baldur's gate (level 5/5/6) from the mages upstairs of the magical shop (forgot their were casting horror...)
- Berserker. Solo. Died at level 6 from an ankheg, ambushing me while resting
- Inquisitor. In group of 4 (imoen, minsc, viconia). Still in progress (in cloakwoods)
- Berserker / mage (dual 7/8). Solo. Sill in progress (in catacombs at candlekeep). I should succeed it with this one (unless i do something dumb), as he is now 7/8 and almost unkillable (berserker kit is awesome)

My next try will be a solo sorcerer.

Some advices for those who want to try it :
- i find solo play easier than group play (as defense is paramount in no reload, and much easier to get on one character than on 6)
- very good knowledge of the game is necessary.
- when playing solo, never roll to save against a deadly effect (paralysis, horror, charm....) -> you need to get immunities (potions, items, abilities, spells) or you will die.
- always have an invisibility potion ready, as a panic button

Help me choose...

I know this is a common topic but I truly can not decide which class to play. I have started over at least 10 times and I could use some advice.

I like my protagonist to be powerful and require some micromanaging. I will run with a full party and I'd like a character that is strong from the keep to the throne. I generally prefer some sort I caster.

I have narrowed it down to these five classes. I'm looking to hear which you think would be the most fun.

Half-Orc - cleric/thief. This is one combo I have never chosen and it seems like it might be interesting. However it seems more like a utility class than a poweful leader.

Cavalier or undead hunter - my only experience with a paladin is keldorn. I think the priest spells in TOB would be good plus an awesome tank in bgee.

Elf Fighter/Thief - I like that I can be neutral or evil here and eventually swing carsomyr while wearing the human leather armor. Cast from wand and scrolls in TOB is also a big plus. Backstab seems like it might be a bit too powerful though in bgee though.

Elf Sorcerer - there's no doubt the sorcerer is a powerhouse but how fun are they in bgee? I also think I might want a bit more of a fighter.

Ranger/cleric. This class seems awesome but a bit of an exploit with all of those Druid spells. In its defense thorugh I know it won't compete with a mage in the long run.

I would also like to add my only full playthrough years ago was as a blade. So while I love that class I don't want to repeat it. Also, a fighter/mage just seems a bit generic.

Thank you very much if you made it this far. Any advice is truly appreciated!

Why is my NPC reaction so low?

I am trying to get that quest at Cloakwood wood lodge, and I have ajantis with algernons cloak and 18 rep, but his NPC reaction is still only 8. My main char Is lawful evil, so maybe that affects it? I dont know, but I really want the xp from that quest -.-
