Was always wondering why the different intallation pathways

I mean why didn't I get to choose what folder I install BG2EE in while getting that option for BGEE. Why is there a startup screen for BGEE that allows for updating, but to update BG2EE I need to update with beamdog?
(Both were got and downloaded via beamdog)
