Argh! Chickens!

So I was investigating a building within the fine city of Baldur's Gate and a horde of angry rabid chickens promptly attacked me and my fellow adventurers without reason!

Is there an explanation as to why a large number Gallus gallus domesticus should randomly inhabit such a building, and why were the fowl so rabid? What happened to the owner of the establishment? So many unanswered questions.

It is almost like there was a conspiracy taking place...
