Dual classing ranger cleric

I see people saying you dual class at 9 or 13.

But... reading from here: https://baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/Ranger
you get 3-3-3 slots at level 16.

I'm wondering: do the slots from ranger and cleric get summed up, or do cleric slots overwrite the ranger slots?
