Recommended MODs for BG1:EE and BG2:EE (iPad)

$

Ok, so I have decided to jailbreak my iPad and enter the group of people being blown away (usually to pieces followed by a reload) from SCS. Once I am down this road, I don´t see why I would not try a couple more so:

1) Which MODs are recommended and compatible with SCS? (I have heard great things about that MOD that adds dialogs in BG:EE with party NPCs and about ascension)

2) Is there any known issue/problem with modding the iPad? More lag? more crashes? Or if you jailbreak everything goes smoothly?

Thanks!

Ulgoth's Beard, Demon Knight, and Helm of Opposite Alignment...

Hell, it's fantastic, how after 10 whole, and over than 10, years, i keep bumping into new stuff, in an old game, that i NEVER knew, or had even the faintest idea that they merely existed... The thing is, "Helm of Opposite Alignment". In BG1, i play with a full party of self-created powermongers, so eliminating the Demon Knight during first encounter, just to get this fabulous prize, will be far more easy and quick, than killing Drizzt and Shandalar (yea, i did that... again...), during their first encounter and before even triggering any of their affiliated quests.

So, if i understand correctly, i have to go to the starting map, meet IKE, take his tour, and do my stuff on the D.Knight, the very second he appears? And when i kill him, he drops the helm?

Wow, now i am hyped! This little, charming item, is going to be transferred to BG2. Where, my main is a Beastmaster/Cleric. Will try to get most cleric spells by levelling up naturally (good, due to alignment), then use the helm, change alignment, and level up again, until i get them all. This way, i might finally do my desired thing, which is, to get all cleric spells, on a cleric ranger (normally, you are prohibited from getting unholy word and unholy blight, thanks to alignment). And tears of Bhaal, even if they turn you evil, still, do not help you in getting the evil spells, even after levelling up correctly afterwards. Will try and see...

Tashia Romance

Ok I'm not sure if I'm missing something or what, but I cannot get Tashia's romance to go any further. When does her ex come and get her? Maybe that is just not spawning. I have traveled to different places, rested, done all her riddles, and even advanced real time but nothing is happening. What am i missing?

Hullo, how do I use EE Keeper on my android phone?

Heey, my question is pretty much in the title.. I've just bought bgee for my android and I'm loving it! But I'm sure I can use EE Keeper for it, I'm just not sure how..

I've downloaded EE Keeper on this phone, but it's asking me what program/app I want to open it in - I have no idea =S

Or have I got the wrong idea, do I need to use the EE Keeper on my PC to somehow edit my android files? If so, what's the best way to move files across and back from my phone to PC? I've just been using email/dropbox the few times I've had to move a photo or something..

I'm fairly computer literate, but this is the first smartphone I've owned and it's pretty new so I'm still getting my head around it - so any more in depth replies would be much appreciated =)

Thank you,

Uncumber

P.s. I have tried googling this but couldn't find anything, so apologies if this has already been covered a hundred times!

Barbarian-ish Fighter/Transmuter with unlikely party of four

This is going to be a mercifully limited playthrough journal commentary-wise, I plan to just hit a few highlights.

I set out to try give myself a bit more challenge so I figured I'd try SCS with a party of three companion NPCs that are not regarded as particularly powerful. And I wanted to try a Fighter/Mage build that is a bit unusual. Anyway, here is the party:

Hector, human CN Barbarian 3/Transmuter
Tiax
Rasaad
Safana as Swashbuckler

image
As you can see I made some edits made via EE Keeper. I won't bore folks with the details of a few missteps that I made, but I learned in a slightly roundabout way that the way to get a dual-class Barbarian/Specialist Mage is to 1) start with Fighter, 2) dual to Mage, 3) via EE Keeper assign the Mage specialty kit (here Transmuter), 4) use EE Keeper to add the Barbarian Rage innate ability.

Hector is a hulking warrior who wields a haldberd. As I'm playing him, more than half of his spell slots must be filled with Alteration spells--which I'm pleased to find are (at least for me) really fun for a meleeing Mage.

Oh, and Hector loves his cat familiar. He uses her to scout just about constantly. Haven't yet had the cat try pickpocketing, but tonight I'll see how that goes.

I'm just having some powergaming fun for this run, so I'm metagaming and reloading at will.

Hector and Tiax went straight to the bassilisk map in order to level Hector to just shy of Fighter 3/Transmuter 4.

It's a shame that Color Spray doesn't scale to opponents, because it is so darned cool. I'm going to miss using it when enemies start to consistently save against it:

image
And the Alteration spell Strength is seeing a lot of use as well right now.

So this is a motley bunch, and I am very pleased thus far with the unusual chemistry of this party. The personalities seem to contrast one another well. Tiax and Rasaad adventuring alongside one another is... just special.

In terms of utility they complement one another rather well also. Tiax is a little badass! I mean I know from Cleric/Thieves; but especially with his Summon Ghast ability the little guy is really proving a much stronger contributor than I remember. I'm going to be fascinated to see how well Safana performs as Swashy. I just added her to the party, but so far so good. This is the first time I'm using Rasaad as a Sun Soul Monk. So that's kind of an interesting departure as well. I'm looking forward to when he gets Stunning Fist.

Anyway, I'll just post anything that seems noteworthy about the battles, or otherwise seems worth mentioning. About the only thing to note thus far is the SCS sirines weren't as hard as I expected. I did have to wait out some of their charms on some of the party, but no one was really in any serious danger. And I had Tiax just sneak into the pirate cave and steal the treasure, rather than have the party try to take out the flesh golems.

Custom Character Portraits Question

Hey,

Not quite sure this is the correct forum for this question, but here it goes. First time playing through BG and I'm trying to import a new character portrait into the game using GIMP and EEKeeper. From what I've gathered elsewhere you need to convert the image once you're done modifying it into a 24 Bit Bitmap (BMP). Problem is I seem to be doing this wrong. In GIMP I have the option to export the image as a BMP, but once it's done exporting I get a file with a PNG extension which is apparently unrecognizable by EEKeeper. So, if there are any GIMP users out there who would like to enlighten me as what I'm doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Who's the most stylish?

I mean paper dolls. Which one looks the best? For me it's the male elven Mage in pink and blue with a resistance robe. The archmagi robes a cool to, but I see them so much I get sick of them. I also like the un armored paperdoll. That hilariously skinny waist. Safana err, the human female thief(in leather. That catsuit is awkward.) is quite *ahem* nice as well.
Edit: got the right pics in.

Favorite Fighter Class v.2

Hey guys, I cleared it with Dee, and the poll series is coming back! There'll be a weekly installment, likely on Sunday or Monday, so enjoy ten weeks of class polls!

This is the first of a series of polls showing what everyone's favorite classes and kits are. There will be ten polls, one for each of the standard classes. Barbarian will be placed in the fighter quiz because it has no kits, so there'd be no poll if it wasn't with the other fighters. This poll is to show personal preference, and not to say what is the strongest kit. That said, feel free to debate to your heart's content in the comments!

What is the deal with that Bastard sword? Valid info, please...

The weapon's description, in 2, says: (besides the rest) can be wielded with one, or two hands.

So, is it possible to use it as a two handed sword? And if yes, how?

Wielding it with a shield, or as an offhand, clearly uses it with one of your hands. Now, how to use it with my two hands? Does damage differ?

Most Unrivaled Ranger v.2

Moving right along from the fighter, this time we're seeing what the best ranger kit is! As always, this is for personal preference, and not to say what is the strongest kit. That said, feel free to debate to your heart's content in the comments! I'd also like to give a big thank you/shout out to @Tresset for helping me recover my poll's options, as well as a thank you to Dee for allowing me to re-post these. Without further ado, choose!

What is the nature of alignment?

Just whimsically wondering what most people thought about this. Some people think that lawful means that you follow external laws set by the community, some people (@jackjack?) think that it's a internal code, a strick self discipline. As for good/evil, some people think that good is immediate, the ends never justify the means. Some people think it's long-term, that an out of context "evil" act could be good in a larger arc. I don't want to make the poll options to busy, so I'll explain the options here:

1. Law is external, lawful means you follow the laws set by the community. Good is immediate, the ends never justify the means. Chaos means a disregard for the laws of society, but you can still posses a strick moral code.

2. Law is external, good is delayed. Sometimes the ends justify the means; you could steal or harm for the greater good.

3. Law is internal, to be lawful is to follow a strict moral code, and have much self discipline. good is immediate.

4. Law is internal, good is delayed.

*****clarification: though I didn't really say so, I'm thinking about this mostly in the context of paladins. I think I explain better in a below comment*****

Tiana vs. Priss: Who do you side with?

Who do you side with in the most epic love triangle to sweep Faerun?

I usually feel compelled to save sweet little Priss from that nasty old harpy Tiana. If I see Priss on the verge of defeat (which she usually will be, if left unaided), I have my cleric "command" Tiana to sleep, and then step back and allow Priss to finish off her napping target.

Another No-Reload Adventure !

Hello guys, today I'm starting a new solo no-reload playthrough but this time without SCS, firstly because I'm playing some multiplayer without it at the moment and secondly because I thought it would be nice to first finish the vanilla game on no-reload before challenging myself with SCS once again.

I give you Dariel Rivendil, a Half-Elf Neutral Good Fighter/Mage/Cleric who started with 2 pips in Slings and Morning Stars. I didn't think much about him RP-wise but I think you can picture Dariel as some Paladin/Mage multiclass, he considers himself a righteous person and he acts like a knight.

image

I chose this character for 3 reasons :

-I wanted to have fun ! And triple classes characters are by far my favorite, even if I often give more credit to the F/M/T than the F/M/C
-I wanted to play something original and I feel like the F/M/C is underplayed on this forum.
-I want to succeed, which means some sort of arcane magic, in my opinion of course.

The rules :

-No mod except a Simple xp cap remover.
-Insane difficulty.
-Max HP on level up.
-Solo

After doing all his chores in Candlekeep, Dariel spoke with his foster father. Gorion told him it was time to flee the citadel and that it would be better to travel as soon as possible, by night.

But even protected by the shadows, they were ambushed by an armored figure and his group of bandits. All powerful was Gorion's magic, it wasn't enough to save him as he told Dariel to escape ...

The next day, Dariel swore to take his revenge one day against this man who took his only family.

Dwarven Cleric/Fighter

I am new to BG... yes new to BG... though I have played many D&D games. My typical build is a cleric/fighter/Dwarven defender. I am wondering if this is a possible build and if it is effective. I understand BG is quite hardcore and old school and I am playing through it my first time. I started out as a plain ol Cleric. Default combo and hope to advance to a cleric/dwarven defender.... is this possible or should I start over as a dwarven defender and switch to cleric around level 7?

Thanks! any help is appreciated.

so i'd like to know exactly what beamdog's future plans are concerning the ee series, an eventual sequel etc..

the last major "secret/update/revelation/surprise" was releasing a game that's already been out for a while on a different platform and i don't think i can face a disappointment like that again

Is this a BGEE mod that you would like to see? (spoilers)

$

0
I'm asking this here because I know that the BGEE Modding forum doesn't get much traffic, and I want to see what sort of enthusiasm there might from the community for such a mod. I believe it would be one of the single best improvements to the game possible. And if it is not too difficult to mod, I may embark on learning how to do it.

I refer to this thread in the BGEE Modding subforum:

http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/32224/increased-banters-in-bgee#p1

For reference sake I will restate the concept here.

1) This mod uses existing voiced banters only--there is no new written dialog content.

2) The banters between NPCS that already exist will fire with much higher frequency. All banters will fire often; hopefully the sweet spot for frequency will be found. Feedback about how often might be ideal for banters to fire is invited.

3) New relationships will be established between NPCs. Although it would be impossible to please everyone in that regard, it would probably be the most fun overall if there are a few surprises (such as Edwin and Alora striking up a friendship in vanilla).

4) For antagonistic relationships, a fight break may out after a certain point according to a % chance of occurrence. I.e., if certain conditions are met, then there is, say, a 1 in 5 chance, that the NPCs duke it out. The fight would be interruptible. Afterward that pair of NPCs will continue to grouse at each other as before but won't fight again.

5) Beyond the choices about which particular banters get traded back and forth, the new bantering relationships, and chance of a fight breaking out, there is no further modification to the game. The characters do not have any new content--they just banter frequently. They interact! (Sometimes with a chance of a fight breaking out.)

Resources with which to envision the possibilities for such a mod:

Mordeus Index of BG1 NPC Banters

image

If you randomly click anywhere on the playback bar for the above You Tube link, you can hear a lot of lines that almost never fire in the game, and really deserve to be enjoyed and put to better use.

I have been advised that the BG1 NPC Project for EE intends to implement many of these ideas. And I love that mod for its immense creativity. But to be frank, I do not always want to play the game using someone else's vision of our beloved characters!

If BG1 NPC Project for EE is going to use a highly modular design similar to SCS where you can select the components you like--and as such the player could choose only what I am describing here--then it makes sense to wait for completion of that project. So I have added that as a poll option.

If there is really strong support for this idea, I will consider attempting to learn how to code such a mod; since I strongly believe that is probably the single strongest improvement to BGEE that I can envision.
